I make art because it is soul. Contrast these two phenomena: the mechanisation of life, the deconstruction of life, the mystery of life that science seeks to unlock; that moment of standing on top of a mountain, the moment a baby is born, the first experience of something new. It is easy to forget that the marvellous is inherent. That is where art speaks to and exists. It is a space to connect to something bigger than ourselves. Connecting to our past, examining our present and imagining our future. This is why I work so hard and have dedicated myself to: the craft of reflecting on what it means to be human. What it means to be the sum of more than neural connections, to be more than a sum of mathematical algorithms, so we can marvel, to celebrate, to give thanks, and to cry for something beyond ourselves. – Sept 2017
