I came across this artist while researching for work. Masia is a Singaporean Canadian (overly simplified reduction of her cultural and geographical lineage). What’s interesting is that she draws upon “her roots in South East Asia” to feed her sound of hip hop.
The sophomore release from artist Masia One titled Pulau, is a collection of lyrics, samples and songs compiled over a 2 year period in her travels as an international artist…The title track Pulau showcases Lady E from Singapore rapping in her Malay native tongue, with Isis of Thunderheist singing an island theme to set the stage. Here, the urban art form of Hip hop music is reinvented through the natural raw and creative sensibilities of island life.
