Read Shou Chen’s reflections on working on Don Giovanni here:
Synopsis:
The Opera People present a new production of Mozart’s masterpiece, and one of the most famous operas ever written, Don Giovanni.
In a world obsessed with the cult of personality, where power brings freedom, Don Giovanni can get away even with murder, or so he thinks. When his latest, violent sexual conquest doesn’t quite go according to plan, the structures of power that have held up his numerous crimes slowly start to come apart. Even as those wronged by him demand accountability for his crimes, their actions become a farce of justice. But when they are confronted by a terrifying vision of mortality, the repercussions of both his actions and their inaction, creates ripples for generations to come.
Directed by Tan Shou Chen and featuring a cast of some of Singapore’s finest singers including Renata Hann Sungwon , Felicia Teo Kaixin, Cherie Tse, Jonathan Charles Tay, Edward Kim, David Tao Chen Ming, Shawn Liew, guest singer Igor Mostovoi and the Wayfarer Sinfonietta led by Lien Boon Hua, this bold new take on Don Giovanni questions our complicity in violence and the systems of power that shape our relationships with each other.
