I took this picture at a Carl’s Junior near a Walmart…I can’t exactly remember but I think it was near Jefferson. It’s the “receiving end” of a bullet proof box that can only be opened when the counter staff has closed his/her end. It’s like going to the bank. You have to make your order via a microphone, and put money through another receptacle. It’s essentially meant to protect the staff from possible assailants and robbers, hence also the thick bullet proof glass that separates the counter from the rest of the restaurant. What struck me were the really cute and quaint decorations obviously meant to lighten the underlying fear and mistrust. The whole thing is probably for good measure and I’m sure it has deterred otherwise fatal attacks but…ack?
